Coffee. I love it. I’ll be the first to admit that I have an obession with it.
However, I tend to be a bit of a coffee snob. I drink FAR too much Starbucks. Like I probably pay their electric bill myself. If I’m missing, you can either find me at Starbucks (or Target… with a latte in hand). It’s my guilty pleasure. I don’t smoke, don’t do drugs, I rarely buy fast food or drink any type of soda, I don’t drink tons of alcohol. Starbucks is my thing. My fav being the White Chocolate Mocha latte.
The downfall of buying Starbucks lattes? $$$ Expensive!!!
So, after a lot of searching and some trial & error, I finally have an at-home DIY white chocolate mocha that gives me the same fuzzy feeling that my Starbs does. Now, I will not lie to you. It does not taste the exact same, but it is delicious and can really be tweaked to individual preferences.
One of the main things that makes this DIY latte so good, is the espresso machine. I have tried to do lattes with coffee (and you can certainly try!), but Chris bought this Mr. Coffee Café Barista for us a couple Christmas’s ago & it was the best investment. Definitely one of our best Amazon purchases.
The second big factor is the coffee. We buy the Starbucks Espresso Blend. We have tried the Christmas Blend, Blonde Roast, Dark Roast, but by far my favorite is the Espresso Blend.
Ingredients:
- Starbucks Espresso Blend – Ground
- 1 Cup of Milk – Whatever kind you prefer
- 4-5 TBSP White Chocolate Chips *Depending on your taste, you can use less or more*
- Whipped Cream (optional)
Equipment used:
Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista (the best!)
How to:
1. Prep – Turn on the machine & make sure the water reservior is full.
2. Put a scoop of ground espresso/coffee into the filter/porta-filter and use the opposite side of the scoop to push the grounds down firmly (follow the manual instructions).
3. Fill up the milk reservior about half way (1 cup or so) and then slide it into place.
4. Add 4-5 tablespoons of white chocolate chips to the bottom of an empty coffee mug. No need to melt them first, the hot milk & espresso will melt the chocolate perfectly.
5. Place the mug in the brewing area. I push the large latte button to run the milk. You can let it keep going and it will also start the espresso, but I stop it when the milk is done.
6. Then I run two espresso shots twice, for a total of 4 shots.
7. With a large spoon, stir it up until smooth. Top with whipped cream if desired.
8. Enjoy!
It is so easy and is seriously yummy. Much cheaper than Starbs too.
Aden, my Starbucks snob kiddo, also loves these lattes! For him, I do it the exact same way, except I only put one shot in. That’s more than enough caffeine for an 11 year old.
Side note: How cute is this Mama Needs Some Coffee Mug I picked up today at Target? It is a 27 oz mug, making it perfect for a nice big latte! When I got home, Aden said, “You should have got one that says Mama needs some wine!” Ummm…
On that note, have a great rest of the weekend!
Just like you I am a coffee snob, people ask me if I am ok if they see me without my coffee cup in my hand! I don’t have a coffee machine like yours but I use pods (the Starbucks origin blend) I am now eager to try this recipe, me fave is a caramel latte which I make at home all the time but I’m always open to new recipes!
This looks delicious. I’ve never seen a machine like that. So cool!
That latte machine looks awesome and so does the drink. I’m sure you save a ton of money now!
I love literally every single word in the title! The drink looks delicious!
Giiirlll look at you! This is so awesome! And that machine is INTENSE! Saving this baby!
my boyfriend would just love this! he is all about white chocolate in his coffee.
I’ve never been hooked on coffee but I too love to make homemade lattes. You can do so many different things & you’re right, it’s SO much cheaper! My favorite to make is a turmeric latte! 🙂

The White Chocolate Mocha is one of my favorite Starbucks drinks! I will definitely try this!
I am a huge fan of white mocha latte too! Great idea to make your own instead of buying Starbucks. Gonna check out the coffee maker you suggested!
I keep thinking I should look into getting an espresso machine. I just drink black coffee constantly, but if I “treat” myself, it’s a quad-shot latte…the money saved from not being roped to a coffee shop would end up paying for the machine pretty quickly. I think I’ll start looking into it, thanks for the recommendation!
100 percent agree that when you make your own lattes at home you need to use good coffee. These lattes look awesome.
I love your Mr. Coffee! We just moved from a semi-furnished apartment. I loved the Mr. Coffee (the basic one) but it didn’t belong to us, and my husband hated our giant fancy espresso machine. It was kind of old so we left that behind, too. This looks like the best of both worlds!!! Thank you!
Oh my goodness! What a darling little machine! Thank you so much for putting this kitchen appliance on my radar. I’d love to have one in my kitchen and to give to my daughters as birthday gifts.
Oh wow, this is such a great combination of flavors in all of this. Worth trying it out
This looks great! I have been making lattes at home for awhile and they are awesome! I will be adding white chocolate chips to my next one. Thanks for sharing!
