DIY Farmhouse Table in a Weekend

Oh, men. Such funny creatures. You suggest something to them, it’s a terrible idea, but then when they “think” of it days later, it’s the best idea ever!? Enter: Our Farmhouse Table.

As I’ve mentioned before, we had decided to focus on one room at a time, living room being first. Except then we had Chris’s family come in from out of town. Not only did we throw together the guest room, we decided we finally needed a table. A real table. We had definitely been putting it off as we focused on the living room. Plus, there’s only three of us. We were fine eating at the counter with barstools for the time being. But 4 extra people? Table needed!

We had looked at some tables online and they were either not what we were wanting or they were thousands of dollars & way out of our price range. I’m the type of person if I can DIY it, I will. I love some frugal projects!! So naturally I suggested that we should just build a table. There’s tons of plans online & we have the tools (SO MANY TOOLS). Chris was NOT on board. He nearly kicked me out of the house for even thinking of it. Ok, not really, but he was not happy. He continued to tell me how hard it would be, how we don’t have time, wood would be expensive, it was just too much work! Knowing he’d have to do the majority of the building, I didn’t argue.

Back to table hunting. Online. Countless furniture stores. We found a couple that were ok, but not great. Plus, again, thousands of dollars. I mean seriously, some weren’t even solid wood!? Rip off.

A couple days later, Chris has table plans printed out just laying on the counter. Um, what? He was so excited to tell me he had decided he decided he was going to build us this awesome table! (Yep, totally his idea…) Couldn’t help but laugh! Men, I tell ya.

We used some plans from Ana White & Chris modified the leg style. Plans & sources are linked at the bottom.

Here’s how it went! (Don’t mind our messy garage! It’s the “catch all” from our move!)

Plans we used:

Ana White | Fancy Farmhouse Table

As you can tell, Chris modified this plan slightly, but these are the steps he followed.

Stain:

Minwax Classic Gray

Seating Sources:

Extra Long Bench

Black Metal Industrial Chairs (Set of 2) – I want another set because I think we could put a third chair in there… thoughts?

Ivory Tufted Upolstered Chairs

So there you have it! It honestly cost us a couple hundred dollars instead of thousands. We LOVE the table. It’s perfect in our space.

Time to figure out our next project! 🙂
